See R.L. Stine Do ‘Cool Shit/Weird Shit’ at UCBeast Tonight

If you were a kid in the ’90s, R.L. Stine was your Stephen King. This was pre-helicopter parenting, when your school book fair haul could consist solely of paperbacks like Say Cheese and Die!, The Girl Who Cried Monster, and The Curse of the Creeping Coffin. Stine has sold more than 350 million copies of his 300-plus books. The Goosebumps series alone had more product tie-ins than a Marvel movie: masks, shirts, trading cards, a board game (which I got for my ninth birthday), even a ventriloquist dummy named Slappy.

Sideshow Goshko Celebrates 5 Years of Comedic Storytelling and ‘So Much Alcohol’

It’s kind of appropriate that Leslie Goshko, a woman of Ukrainian heritage with an arsenal of anecdotes, hosts a monthly storytelling show at KGB Bar, the former socialist clubhouse for Soviet ex-pats. Tonight, Sideshow Goshko celebrates its fifth anniversary.

As mentioned in this week’s comedy roundup, the 15th annual Del Close Marathon kicks off this Friday, with 56 straight hours of improvised comedy taking place across 7 stages throughout the city, including East Village’s own UCB East theater and Theater 80 on St. Marks Place.
There’s reason to range beyond the Bedford + Bowery borders, as well: Baby Wants Candy — the long-running, Chicago-based improvised musical — is one of the most beloved institutions within the improv world and a Marathon fixture, having played over 1,700 shows worldwide.
