Wear Your Sunglasses After Dark to Tonight’s Star-Studded Tribute to The Cramps

Several Halloweens ago, the folks at Nightclubbing gave us what was most definitely a treat: vintage footage of The Cramps doing “The Way I Walk” at Irving Plaza. Today, Emily Armstrong and Pat Ivers have dusted off another clip, posting footage of Lux Interior et al doing “Pretty Baby What You Do To Me.” Check it out above, and then watch “The Mac Daddy” as well– it’ll make for the perfect pre-partying music tonight as you get ready to head over to the annual Halloween tribute to The Cramps at Bowery Electric.

It’s Been 10 Years Since CBGBs Closed, So Here’s a Refresher Course

Talking Heads and Bettie Ringma (Marc Miller and Bettie Ringma)

Talking Heads and Bettie Ringma (Marc Miller and Bettie Ringma)

This past Saturday marked the 10th anniversary since CBGB closed its doors for good. Lord knows, the place has been mythologized in that decade: its original awning ended up in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Museum;  there was (briefly) a CBGB music and film festival; a CBGB restaurant popped up at Newark airport and garnered some of the worst Yelp reviews ever; and the Met even recreated the infamous CBGB bathroom. Heck, we even dusted off some photos from the vault last week.

“I think I had six-pack abs for a week when I was 16,” says Jonny Porkpie with a laugh, pushing his long, brown hair behind his head.

For the past 14 or so years (he’s lost track), Jonny has immersed himself in the field of burlesque. With a background in theater, a burlesque-themed mystery thriller (The Corpse Wore Pasties) under his belt, and another novel on its way, he sees burlesque as the ultimate opportunity for creative expression.

Stop Everything, the Gilmore Girls Wanna Give (Very Few of) You Free Coffee

In case you forgot, Gilmore Girls is making a triumphant return to Netflix on November 25, just in time for the show’s Sweet 16. If you just can’t wait till then to cozy up with your best friends on Earth these strictly TV-only characters who you’re just somewhat mildly familiar with, and a piping-hot cuppa Joe (the Gilmore Girls official beverage of choice, duh), then Netflix has something sweet (but mostly just bitter) to hold you over.

Last time we checked in with the second location of Tompkins Square Bagels, it was set to open in June. But it wasn’t until last night that we saw new signage up on the former Open Pantry space. Owner Christopher Pugliese tells us he’s now aiming to open at 184 Second Avenue sometime next month.

In what’s pretty much a music nerd’s dream come true, AirBnB is offering the chance to stay overnight at Rough Trade. If you’re envisioning Night at the Museum with vinyl records instead of Teddy Roosevelt and Sacagawea, don’t worry, it’s not that sketchy (unless you want it to be, to each their own), and it’s safe to say Ben Stiller won’t be there.
