The Manhattan Short Film Festival
From September 27 through October 6 the Manhattan Short Film Festival will be screening in over 300 cities on six continents to over 100,000 people. The actual Manhattan screening will be on Thursday at Sunshine Cinema in the LES. Feel the rumble of the subway beneath you as you watch and prepare to vote for your favorite of the ten shorts.

This Friday through Sunday, the Coney Island Film Festival celebrates its 13th year with 88 films, some food, some wine, and, of course, some burlesque. It was on this day 45 years ago that the Beatles moved into the Apple Records headquarters in London, where a huge chunk of “Let It Be” was recorded and where their last-ever rooftop performance was held.
So why not celebrate like a true fan and head on over to Boulevard Tavern for a screening of their debut film “The Magical Mystery Tour”? We know the film has no direct connection to the Apple headquarters (other then it being the Beatles), but maybe you wanted an excuse to drink $6 martinis, indulge in a $5 all-you-can-eat BBQ and watch a free Beatles movie at 11 p.m. on a Monday. The year 2000 marked the first time Brits elected a Mayor of London (not to be confused with the Lord Mayor of the City of London). In the running was Malcolm McLaren, best known as the manager and oft-disputed mastermind behind the Sex Pistols (he also managed the New York Dolls, Bow Wow Wow, had a solo career, and was on a couple of reality shows).
In “Malcolm McLaren: Not For Sale” — featured in Wednesday’s “New Filmmakers: Films About Music” program at Anthology –Nancy Cohen and Andy Lee attempt to track down and interview McLaren about his run for mayor. He misses a few meetings with the film crew but they catch up with him eventually.

Introducing “Reel Psyched,” wherein we tell you what we’re really excited to see in the theaters this week.
With the Lower East Side Film Festival in full swing in Manhattan and the Northside Festival’s film program popping off tonight in Brooklyn, it’s a good time to be a film buff.
At the L.E.S* Film Festival, which kicked off Thursday and continues through the weekend, offerings from up-and-coming directors are judged by a panel of guests including celebrities like Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock”) and Dan Janvey (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”). The audience favorite gets a $2,000 check from Vimeo (ahem, Bedford + Bowery’s video player of choice).
