Earlier this week we brought word that Gray’s Papaya would be opening a midtown location at 612 Eighth Avenue, between 39th and 40th Streets, making an uptown Papaya pilgrimage just a little easier for those of us who are still mourning the loss, three years ago, of their Greenwich Village spot. (The chain had dwindled down to its original store at 72nd Street.)
Well, here she is: Gray’s opened this second location yesterday (appropriately, it’s located a block from the Gray Lady), and its Polite New Yorkers are currently serving up salty, snappy dogs 24/7. The Recession Special, in case you haven’t been here in a while, is now up to $5.95 for two franks and a medium drink. In addition to the usual coconut champagne, this location serves coffee, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone artisanal on you: it’s drip, and cappuccino is misspelled on the cups.
Don’t ever change, Gray’s!
This is great when I visited the city I used to go down to the Village papaya and was very disappointed when they closed down but then that took me up to 72nd Street the most famous one for all the movies of it played a role in so I wish them the best of luck and this is great right on 8th Avenue I can’t wait to go there next week.
