Hot Diggity: Gray’s Papaya Unleashes New Location

Earlier this week we brought word that Gray’s Papaya would be opening a midtown location at 612 Eighth Avenue, between 39th and 40th Streets, making an uptown Papaya pilgrimage just a little easier for those of us who are still mourning the loss, three years ago, of their Greenwich Village spot. (The chain had dwindled down to its original store at 72nd Street.)

A Juice Bar Has Replaced an 87-Year-Old Bakery, But There’s a Twist…

Over the weekend a juice bar opened in what was, for 87 years, the home of Ninth Street Bakery. The owner of beQu worked at, yup, Liquiteria for 10 years, but if you were outraged by Liquiteria replacing Gray’s Papaya, you might be less up in arms about this: after all, Taras Strachnyi is a 20-year resident of St. Marks Place who used to buy bread at Ninth Street Bakery and knew the owners.

Doggone! Gray’s Papaya Has Closed

And now both Mike and Gray's are gone.

This is a hard one to swallow.

Gray’s Papaya has shuttered its Sixth Avenue store. After a tipster saw the hot doggery being dismantled, Eater confirmed the closure with an employee at the uptown location who “was unsure if it was done for good, or just shuttered for a revamp.”
