These Pop-Up Markets Are For the Ravers and Hip-Hop Heads

1364914171_MG_7643Whether you’re a hip-hop aficionado looking for a reason to day drink or a dance devotee looking for a reason to night shop, these two holiday markets have you covered.

Ibiza Love Child Pop-Up Weekender+
Nov. 28 to Dec. 3 and Dec. 14 to Dec. 25, from 4pm to midnight at Ibiza Love Child, 29 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg
While it ramps up for a grand opening in February, Ibiza Love Child has been doing pop-ups at Verboten while quietly operating by appointment only on other days. But starting Black Friday, designer Mary Wagman will invite holiday shoppers into her 2,500-square-foot warehouse – a “warm, yummy environment,” she assures us – so they can check out her private line as well as the funky duds she imports from that party mecca of Ibiza.

1401146_10152850170854520_5152181318319771883_oBecause 10 holiday markets just aren’t enough when you’re looking for every last excuse to hole up indoors, here are a couple more orgies of crass consumerism to add to your calendar.

Roberta’s Holiday Market
Dec. 12 from 5-10pm and Dec. 13 from noon-6pm, 261 Moore St., Brooklyn
On the latest episode of Roberta’s Radio, the restaurant’s co-owner Brandon Hoy explained why he wasn’t participating in SantaCon, which will occur (hopefully not in Bushwick) on the same day as the annual holiday market: “The last thing I want is a bunch of drunk Santas vomitting on somebody’s handcrafted jewelry or soap.” In addition to the vom-free soap, there’ll be vintage items, greeting cards, ceramics and home goods from local vendors. Plus, food!

Speaking of J.Crew (or rather TV on the Radio was speaking of them), Lavai Maria is leaving Williamsburg after five years, and its owner says a new breed of local shopper is to blame.

“I’m moving because of the changes in the neighborhood,” Vania Scharbach told us just hours before she’ll close Lavai Maria on North 5th Street, where everything is 50 percent off today.

The store’s window and gift wrapping was created by Damien Correll.

With nesting season officially upon us (triple ugh), the opening of a new home design store in Greenpoint couldn’t be better timed. On Sunday, the husband and wife behind Franklin Street clothing boutique Wolves Within will open a sister store just a few doors down – namely, the first permanent location of Home of the Brave, the home-furnishings pop-up they operated on West Street for a few months earlier this year.

1780148_791066680955463_6505091718767099592_o-280x128Despite going to the trouble of making a super Brooklyn-y promo video, the market that had hoped to bring Brooklyn makers to Soho during the holiday season has decided to delay its launch. BrooklynXchange posted the following message, informing followers that it was “unable to curate a full compliment of traders that reflect the values of what the BrooklynXchange is to be.”
