Last week a retired NYPD detective allegedly lost his gun at the East Village gay bar Phoenix NYC after he put the firearm on the sink so he could throw up, forgetting about it for several hours. [NY Post]

In a shudder-worthy neighborhood name mash-up, The New York Times deemed the Bushwick, Brooklyn and Ridgewood, Queens border “Quooklyn.” [Brokelyn]

Former reBar owner Jason Stevens pleaded guilty to tax evasion and grand larceny, but may avoid fraud charges after agreeing to pay more than $1 million to couples who had weddings scheduled at his Dumbo restaurant/event space when it closed without notice in May. [The Brooklyn Paper]

Not only does the Northside Festival kick off today, but on June 21, the first day of summer, Make Music NY returns with a mind-boggling 1,000+ free shows in public spaces. Highlights include a 90+-band punk rock marathon on Staten Island, a hootenany on Governor’s Island, and (God help us all) Billy Joel karaoke from the back of a pickup truck.

Lucky Cheng’s Owner Dies; Gun Violence Up Citywide

Hayne Suthon, owner of the drag club Lucky Cheng’s—which moved to Midtown in 2012 following two decades in the East Village—has died from breast cancer at age 59. [Blackbook]

Xochil Zack Fortune, who djayed under the name Furoche, died Tuesday afternoon in Bushwick after his bike was struck by one vehicle and he was then pinned against another. His friends say he was en route to interview for a job as a bike messenger.  An online fundraiser is raising money to cover funeral expenses. The NYPD was unable to provide information about the accident. [Gothamist]

This year has seen a increase in gun violence citywide, says the NYPD. So far in 2014, there have been nearly 11 percent more shootings and 43 percent more victims of gunfire then there were at this time last year. [Wall Street Journal]
