The endlessly evolving work-play complex that is Industry City has gotten some serious upgrades this summer. In addition to a new outdoor concert and comedy series from the Bell House, the sprawling Sunset Park buildings now house a gameroom complete with shuffleboard, basketball, and arcade consoles like Ms. Pac-Man and Asteroids.
Last summer, when the operators of Chelsea boat bar the Frying Pan opened up their outdoor bar, The Wheelhouse, in one of Industry City’s courtyards, they also opened an adjacent indoor ping-pong “arena.” This year they’re branching out from ping pong and adding games like air hockey, Dance Dance Revolution, skeeball, and a couple of head-to-head Hoop Fever machines.
Naturally, there’s also foosball, for those inspired by all that World Cup action. And, most exciting for the old-at-heart, shuffleboard, for the Sunset Parkers who don’t want to bother trekking up to Gowanus’s Royal Palms. Speaking of Gowanus, the Brooklyn-themed mini golf course, with its mini landmarks like the Gowanus Canal, has been moved inside, so you can now play rain or shine.
The game room, inside of Industry City at 51 35th Street, is open from Monday through Thursday from noon to 8pm, Friday and Saturday till 9pm, and Sunday till 6pm. Happy hour, featuring $4 beers and $6 well cocktails, runs from 4pm to 7pm.
