Coney Island isn’t about to let Rockaway hog all the sun, what with the new food vendors at the Riis Park Beach Bazaar and the Rockaway Beach Club. The folks at Thor Equities just announced that their summer pop-up, the Coney Island Walls, will return for its second season May 28.

This time around, Smorgasburg is out of the picture (lord knows they have their hands full) and the folks at South Slope beer-and-bocce wonderland Greenwood Park are overseeing things at the massive lot next to the Thunderbolt rollercoaster. Greenwood Beach, as the venture will be called, will feature vendors like Calexico, Table 87, and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, operating out of separate shipping containers while a bar pours the brewskis. According to Larry Hyland, owner of Greenwood Park, Dinosaur will be brining its own smoker and grill.

Along with the new vendors, some new artists will get a crack at the walls curated by Jeffrey Deitch and placed throughout the lot. Fresh faces include Nina Chanel Abney, John Ahearn, Timothy Curtis, D*Face, Jessica Diamond, Tristan Eaton, Eric Haze, Icy & Sot, London Police, Pose, Stephen Powers, and Tats Cru. Returning champs include Lady Aiko, Mister Cartoon, Crash, Daze, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, and Marie Roberts.

Deitch, the tastefully bespectacled uber gallerist who we recently spotted at a preview of the Ramones exhibit, promises it’ll be “one of the best places in New York to see ambitious new painting.” But then again you have to say that when you’re competing with the new Wahlburgers for attention.

As for the entertainment, there’ll be live music as well as big-name DJs such as Little Louie Vega and David Morales (not yet confirmed). And this won’t be only weekends-only affair: Hyland says he hopes to be open, at the least, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

While you wait for the Walls to reopen, here’s an excuse to visit Coney this weekend: Coney Island Laser Shows is paying tribute to The Beatles on Saturday with what is sure to be a magical mystery tour.
