In honor of the Oscars this Sunday, we asked Mr. Throwback to choose an Oscar-related throwback pick. He selected Vietnamese actor Jonathan Ke Quan (of The Goonies fame).

We Googled Ke Quan and couldn’t find any obvious link to Hollywood’s big night. Mr. Throwback hastily informed us that Ke Quan was in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which won an Oscar. No, it did not win for its memorable score (it was beat out by A Passage to Africa), it took home the statue for Best Visual Effects. Bravo.

Okay Mr. Throwback, you succeeded in connecting Jonathan Ke Quan to the Oscars. Pretty impressive. Now let’s see what else he has to say:

I can’t get enough of Jonathan Ke Quan starring as Mr. Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom with Harrison Ford as his sidekick. Love the part when he’s driving the car and just says, “This is fun.”

And of course he’s in The Goonies as Data. My favorite parts are when he says, “The Fratellis look really pissed off” and of course those Slick Shoes, which are his Original Nikes. And you can’t forget “Booby traps. That’s what I said: booby traps.”

Shockingly, The Goonies was completely overlooked by the Oscars.
