So, yeah, Grand Street sure has popped off since the B+B Newsroom was there in October — in addition to and Sha-Fa, a new cookware and dinnerware store opened on Williamsburg’s Mason-Dixon line earlier this month, across from the recently opened Brooklyn Running Co. and next to a recently opened outpost of State Farm Insurance.

Cucina & Tavola opened a couple of weeks ago in what it describes on its website as “a vibrant part of this smart, creative and growing community.” Flattering the neighborhood will get this gleaming newcomer nowhere, but deep discounts just might. When we stopped in this weekend, Andy Warhol Christmas mugs made by Rosenthal were 40 percent off, and plates from the same German brand were going at marked-down prices you don’t see at similarly spiffy Sur La Table. (The store also carries Paderno cookware as well as flatware and dinnerware by Sambonet.) Plus, there were further discounts for those in ugly Christmas sweaters.
