There was a time when a trendy corporate chain store on Bedford Avenue was about as unimaginable as, well, a Donald Trump presidency. But boy have times changed, what with AppleWhole FoodsDr. Martens, Equinox and all the others doing their best to turn Bedford Avenue into something resembling Broadway between Houston and Canal. Now Uniqlo is jumping into the mix, by opening a pop-up store in the space that housed Spike Hill until the bar and music venue closed two years ago.

Whereas Urban Outfitters had the good sense to disguise itself as “Space Ninety 8”, the Uniqlo pop-up basically doubles as a billboard, assaulting everyone who gets off the L at Bedford. When the shop opens Friday, it’ll sell winterwear such as turtlenecks and cashmere. If you don’t find what you need, you can always hop over to J Crew, Ralph Lauren, Levi’s, Scotch & Soda, G-Star Raw… or maybe stop shopping?
