Not only is it a great time to be a William S. Burroughs fan, but if you’re a Saved By the Bell fan, you’re living in the midst of a veritable Zack-and-Kelly renaissance.
Remember Dennis Haskins, the actor who played Mr. Belding? Well, on Feb. 7 and 8, he’s making a guest appearance in Bayside! The Musical!,  the outrageously raunchy parody of SBTB that’s been playing at Theatre 80 on St. Marks Place. The Bayside principal’s catch phrase — “What is going on here?” — is a big part of the musical and (spoiler alert) eventually leads to a 4 Non Blondes cover that’s one of its more hilarious numbers. So, yeah, this should be pretty epic.
Not only that, but Le Poisson Rouge just started doing a weekly Saved By The 90s party, featuring live music from The Bayside Tigers. The self-described “90s party band,” formerly a fixture at Canal Room, has been known to rip through 4 Non Blondes covers, as well, and they’ve also seen cameos from previous cast members — namely Dustin “Screech” Diamond.
Tonight’s show starts at 11:45 p.m. (tix are $15 at the door) and the party continues every Friday. Warning: expect heavy doses of Third Eye Blind.
