Foodie Fest Washes Up in Rockaway This Weekend, Get There or Be Jelly

The cab driver who picked us up from Le Fooding and San Pellegrino’s Fruitstock at the Rockaways gourmet picnic extravaganza, was non-plussed. “None of this was here ten years ago,” he pointed out. In fact, none of this was here 18 months ago, when Hurricane Sandy ravaged this stretch of coastline. But the Rockaways is bouncing back with a vengeance and this weekend—in addition to the varied food concessions lining the sand at Beach 97‘s pristine boardwalk—comes Le Fooding’s Beach Club concept, complete with guest chefs and an array of tasty offerings (all with an Italian twist, in deference to San Pellegrino’s involvement).

Rockaway Beach Surf Club Is Back, and Will Now Rock Southern Barbecue
Rockaway Taco is set to open tomorrow, and that isn’t the only great news coming out of the peninsula. Rockaway Beach Surf Club, the indoor-outdoor spot that hosted Tiki Disco’s last bash of the summer, is also back for the season (as the above trailer reveals) and will now offer food. The surf fiends who run the place have teamed up with the folks at Williamsburg restaurants Urban Rustic and Lodge to a launch Southern barbecue-inspired menu.

Now a Parks Department spokesperson confirms that Rockaway Taco won’t be doing flautas at the 97th Street stand this year. But these places will be back by tomorrow (in fact, they’re opening today, according to this tweet from Motorboat and the Big Banana).

Rockaway Concessions Gain Roberta’s Pizza, Ice Pops, Fro Yo… But Lose Booze
