It’s the time of year again, when the venerable Essex Street Market marks its anniversary with an all-out block party, taking over the stretch between Delancey and Rivington with pushcarts, astroturf, outdoor DJs, and delicious food galore. After nearly a year of anticipation, Pies ‘n’ Thighs opens Monday on the border of Chinatown and the Lower East Side; the Manhattan outpost will serve the signature fried chicken that made it a hit in Williamsburg as well as a few special LES treats, including sourdough donuts.
