Big Gay Ice Cream Is Serving Up Padma Lakshmi Sundaes

(Photo: Randi Eichenbaum)

Not to be outdone by Stephen Malkmus, Padma Lakshmi is also getting her very own soft-serve flavor. That’s right, Big Gay Ice Cream tweeted earlier this morning that Padma’s “rose ice cream with pistachios and rose-infused whipped cream” is coming this Valentine’s Day. The sundae is a take on a recipe in Padma’s cookbook Tangy Hot Tart & Sweet. Though Padma won’t be in-store doing any meet n’ greets, co-founder Douglas Quint suspects she’ll pop by to sample the creation. He tells us Padma even taste tested some batches last week. Did you taste test batches of your ice cream, Stephen Malkmus?

Hell of a Deal! Dinner’s On Richard Hell If You Bid in This Anti-NYU Expansion Auction

Mark Ruffalo is donating some Hulk memorabilia.

Mark Ruffalo is donating some Hulk memorabilia.

That star-studded auction aimed at snuffing out NYU’s forthcoming Greenwich Village towers went online today, and there are some big ticket items in addition to the previously mentioned shopping trip with Padma Lakshmi, acting lessons from Philip Seymour Hoffman, and lunch with Lewis Lapham. Maybe the most exciting addition: dinner with Richard Hell at John’s of 12th Street, down the block from Hell’s apartment.

These Celebrities Will Hang Out With You If You Just Help Stop NYU

Picture yourself spice shopping with Padma Lakshmi and joking about how NYU’s Greenwich Village expansion plan is like a dose of cayenne to the eyes. Picture yourself getting private acting lessons from Philip Seymour Hoffman and saying, “Hey, do the ‘pigfuck’ line and I’ll pretend I’m John Sexton!” Picture yourself lunching with Bill Moyers, Fran Lebowitz or Lewis Lapham and keeping your hour and a half of conversation tightly focused on just how disastrous it would be if NYU added about 2 million square feet of new construction to two Greenwich Village superblocks, because, let’s face it, you’re too terrified to talk about anything else with them.

All of this could be yours thanks to a new silent auction that NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan is putting on. (The reserve for each: just $2,500!)

Against High Rises in the Village? Take the Elevator Up to This 21st-Floor Fundraiser

At 21 stories high, the penthouse at The Standard East Village might seem like an odd place for opponents of high-rise construction in the Village to sip cocktails.

But Mark Crispin Miller of NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan, which will hold a fundraiser there Tuesday, says there’s no comparison. “The four gigantic towers that NYU plans to cram into the Village will make the hotel, the Standard, look like the Flatiron,” he argues.

Sexy vs. Sexton: Padma Shows Up to Support Lawsuit Against NYU 2031

As expected, Padma Lakshmi was among those who packed into a courtroom today to hear arguments against NYU’s Greenwich Village expansion plan. This was the first public hearing in a battle for the soul of the neighborhood that has become almost as heated as the hellish temperatures outside Manhattan State Supreme.

Apparently, Padma Lakshmi Wants NYU to Pack Its Knives and Go

Whelp, this land-use matter just got a whole lot sexier! Opponents of NYU’s plan to expand in Greenwich Village have gotten a few more bold-face names behind their lawsuit against the school.

A rep for Faculty Against the Sexton Plan (one of the groups suing the school) tells us Padma Lakshmi of “Top Chef” (and of the East Village) will join Village-based authors Peter Carey and Joseph McElroy in the audience at State Supreme Court on Thursday.
