It’s $80 to get in.” Intrigued, we walked over and couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw security barriers being set up outside of the former NuHart & Co. plastics factory. Weren’t we just talking about the possibility of toxic plumes at that site?

Firefighters Gathered at McSorley’s to Remember 9/11
Members from fire rescue units across New York City congregated at McSorley’s Old Ale House today in commemoration of September 11.
Paul Sainsbury of FDNY Rescue 4 in Queens said, “We gather here every year at 3:43 p.m.” – a number that mirrors the total loss of firefighters on this day twelve years ago. Sainsbury said he arrived on the scene that Tuesday “as the second tower was going down.”

Two Bushwick Street Corners Got Rocked By Explosions
About an hour and a half ago, reports of a loud explosion at the corner of Jefferson Street and Evergreen Avenue in Bushwick lit up social media. Many witnesses, including the rapper Kitty (that’s her Vine above), reported that it sounded like (or was) a bomb. Pictures and video of the intersection show smoke seeping up from the street.

A Fire Broke Out at the Bowery Hotel This Morning
Our favorite Bowery hotspot got even hotter this morning. Around 11:40 a.m., an electrical fire started on the 14th floor of the Bowery Hotel. Firefighters had it contained to an electrical room there by 12:07 p.m. and there were no injuries, the fire department said.

FDNY Cracks Down On Bossa Nova’s Ability to ‘Rave With You Full Throttle’
If you were one of the people who thought, “Ugh, that’s the end of that place” when the Bossa Nova Civic Club got that write-up in The Times last month, well then you’re probably also the type that will say, “See, I told you so,” when you hear that, according to the Bushwick boite’s Facebook page, it got a visit from the FDNY and now must limit capacity at its sweat-drenched dance parties.
Cue the message that went out earlier this evening.
