The front of a vacant building collapsed into the street at 11:05 a.m. this morning in Bushwick, injuring a woman who was struck by falling debris.
The woman, said to be in her 30s, was taken to Kings County Hospital; her injuries are serious but not life-threatening, a fire department spokesperson said.
Within minutes of the collapse 60 firefighters arrived at 799 Flushing Avenue, near Humboldt Street, and began sawing away at the building front to search for potential victims. Luckily, no one was trapped under the rubble.
The one-story structure, formerly a pharmacy, was next to an active construction site, but the cause of the collapse isn’t yet known. The Buildings Department will launch an investigation into the incident.
