Why settle for catching glimpses of Alex Karpovsky on the set of Girls when you can see him in a genu-whine short film? “Actor Seeking Role” kicked off the Rooftop Films Summer Series not long ago, and now it has descended onto your humble small screen. As of this week, it’s available on Vimeo.
If you missed Summer of Blood when it played at the Tribeca Film Festival and then again at Northside Festival, here’s one more very festive chance to catch Bushwick filmmaker Onur Tukel’s hilarious, Halloweeny vampire comedy.
The last couple of times we saw actor and filmmaker Alex Karpovsky out and about (at the premieres for Onur Tukel’s Summer of Blood and Michael Tully’s Ping-Pong Summer) we decided against approaching him (one of those times, a couple of Girls fans had already annoyed him enough by asking him to pose for a selfie). So we’re glad that Scott Rogowsky, last seen ambushing apartment hunters with the help of Gilbert Gottfried and Andrew WK, plans to engage in the sort of witty banter we surely would have had with the guy who plays Ray.
One of the buzzed about movies at the Tribeca Film Festival this season is Bushwick filmmaker Onur Tukel’s Summer of Blood, a vampire mumblecore rom com that Vulture describes as “what might happen if Woody Allen and Lena Dunham found themselves collaborating on a Roger Corman movie.” The Dunham comparison is apt: Tukel co-starred in Alex Karpovsky’s Red Flag and now Karpovksy (Ray from Girls) appears in Tukel’s movie, as an office drone who watches his neurotic, lazy manchild of a co-worker descend into insatiable blood lust.
