In Honor of Oderus, Watch GWAR Play an Early Show at Pyramid Club

We’ll never forget seeing GWAR and the Misfits (with Marky Ramone) play a Halloween show at Roseland Ballroom sometime in the late ’90s. After the spectacle of splatter, we ordered a burger at McDonald’s and were surprised by the cashier’s look of bewilderment. Apparently, our face was still bright red from the fake blood shed by the victims of Oderus Urungus (everyone from Marilyn Manson to JonBenet Ramsey to Elvis were fed to his toilet bowl).

Two LES Galleries Get Out of Dodge

The art world was infinitely bummed to find out LES’s DODGEgallery will be closing its doors next month, on its fourth anniversary. Founder Kristen Dodge made the announcement via e-mail on March 10th, expressing her gratitude to the gallery’s roster of artists, staff and supporters.

Virage Is Trying On a New Visage

Xi’an Famous Foods and This Little Piggy aren’t the only East Village eateries taking a lil’ break. Over on Second Avenue earlier today, Virage was doing some spring cleaning. A sign on the window says the neighborhood longtimer is “closed for renovations until April 15.”

A call to the Mediterranean wine bar — frequented mostly for its happy hour and sidewalk seating — went unanswered.

Before production on the new Richard Gere film rolls into the East Village, a pair of TV comedy pilots shot interior scenes nearby today.

Over at Beauty & Essex on the Lower East Side, filming is underway for the David Schwimmer vehicle Irreversible. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Friends actor and Sixth Street resident will produce and star in the semi-improvised series on ABC, a reworking of Bilti Hafich, the most-watched original comedy on Israeli TV. ‘Small Explosion’ on Avenue C Leaves Victim With Serious Burns

A man was seriously burned earlier today following what a bystander described as a “small explosion.” According to the bystander’s second-hand account, “a guy engulfed in flames” ran out of the building located at 170 Avenue C before emergency vehicles arrived. The victim’s charred clothes were left behind at the scene and have since been removed.
