It’s the final countdown.

Update your calendars if you’re planning to raid Trash & Vaudeville’s St. Marks Place location one last time before it leaves its home of over 40 years. The closing date has been moved up to this Sunday.

With a “Hey Ho Lets Go,” the store announced last week that its last day before relocating would be Monday, Feb. 29, but we’re now told that’s been changed to Feb. 28. The reopening at 96 East 7th Street, near First Avenue, is still slated for early March.

Oysters are no longer as abundant as they used to be in New York, but you can still find plenty of the bivalve delicacies at bars and restaurants on the Lower East Side. That was readily apparent Sunday as a host of local chefs and cooks showed off their shucking skills so that 24 brave souls could prove how quickly they could slurp down a couple dozen. We were there for all the shucking and jiving. Check out the techniques on display in our video– as well as some advice from current reigning champion, Terrence Ruggiero, who managed to eat almost one oyster per second. He finished his plate in 29 seconds.

The police say a tip led to the apprehension of the man suspected of cutting a busboy on the cheek during an argument that erupted Wednesday evening after the teen went into the Laguardia Place diner soliciting donations.

Friday, the NYPD asked for the public’s help in identifying three additional teenagers– a man and two women– who were seen in the suspect’s company on the day of the assault.

BetterThanMe pb c.thumbnailBonnie McFarlane + Jim Gaffigan
Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m at The Strand, 828 Broadway
Bonnie McFarlane has made a career out of opening her mouth when she probably should have kept it shut, making people cringe in places like Last Comic Standing and The Jim Gaffigan Show. Her new book, You’re Better Than Me, follows in the footsteps of the popular genre of female comedian tell-alls (Mindy Kaling etc). With biting and hilarious prose it lays bare “the good, the bad and the ugly” of her life, with chapters covering everything from McFarlane’s childhood as a fish out of water on a Canadian farm, to finding “her people” in comedy. She will be joined by fellow comedian Jim Gaffigan.

Buddhists were known to be aggressors until they realized that “being violent and domineering was no fun,” said Robert Thurman at the start of Tibet House’s 26th annual benefit concert. Thurman (co-founder of Tibet House US and father of Uma) repeated the words “no fun” and “boring” as if to subtly hype the show’s headliner. But when Iggy Pop closed out the epic evening at Carnegie Hall, it wasn’t with hits like “No Fun” and “I’m Bored” – instead he performed a couple of unusual spoken-word pieces to the music of the evening’s host, Philip Glass, followed by a pair of rousing David Bowie covers.
