Sure, summer technically ended Saturday, but the folks who run the Riis Park Beach Bazaar are determined to keep the sun-and-sand vibes going well into the winter. They’ve just announced that The Meatup Grill will be the off-season tenant at Jacob Riis Park.

During the past three years, the vendors who occupy the Bay 9 pavilion at Jacob Riis Park have cleared out at the end of the summer and left the building to one tenant intrepid enough to brave those harsh oceanfront winters. Last year, those duties fell to The Dropout, run by Rockaway native Julia Steinberg. Starting in October, the space will be occupied by another longtime local, Michael Fiore and his Meatup Grill, which operated out of the recently reopened bathhouse building during the summer.

As you can see here, the menu items are true to the place’s name: burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and sausages. There’s even a “tower” for four to six of your best beach buds, consisting of three cheeseburgers, three fried chicken sandwiches, cheese fries, six corn cobs, pickles, and slaw. For those who don’t want to meat it up, there’s a quinoa bowl and a veggie burger. In keeping with Fiore’s time as chef-owner of Tempo in Park Slope, there will be Italian nights on Fridays and Sundays (plus Thursdays starting Nov. 9) and a weekend brunch. And if all of that isn’t incentive enough to hop on the ol’ ferry, there’ll be an Oktoberfest celebration (Oct. 13-14), game nights, karaoke, music, a holiday market and more.

The Meatup Grill, 167-02 Rockaway Beach Blvd., open Mon, Thu, Fri from 5pm to 11pm, Sat and Sun 10am to 11pm.
