Manhattan’s floating bars reopened late last month, but– to paraphrase the title of that great sailing movie, What About Bob?— what about Brooklyn? The wait’s over, folks. After being towed back into town by a tugboat last month, the Brooklyn Barge is once again up and running on the Greenpoint waterfront.
Apparently there were some lines on Saturday– hence one Instagrammer’s “barge your way in” pun (below). The full house wasn’t surprising since opening day coincided with Cinco de Mayo and Derby Day. Hopefully it’ll be smoother sailing when the barge opens back up on Wednesday at noon. As in previous years, there’ll be bar grub, cocktails, and a killer view of Manhattan.
Look for the entrance between two warehouses at the intersection of West Street and Milton Street. Though the bar, opened back in 2015, is technically on a barge rather than a boat a la Frying Pan and Grand Banks, you can at least get there by ship: It’s just a few blocks from the NYC Ferry stop at India Street.
