Summer is just about over, which means we’re clocking out early today, pouring some Rum Chata into our newly arrived Aliens tiki mug, and spending the long weekend asking ourselves where the days went. Oh, god, where did they go? You, however, should get out there and enjoy one last blast of fun in the sun before its Oktoberfest time.
Hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach. There’ll be bands at Rippers and Rockaway Beach Surf Club on Saturday, and surf rockers The Supertones will be at Riis Park Beach Bazaar on Sunday. Try the new clam rolls or burritos, and look out for those free sunscreen towers.
Or hit a beach bar that’s just 15 minutes away. If you’re not up for the hour-long ride to Rockaway, take a 6-minute ferry ride to Jersey City and pull up a seat in the sand at the sprawling Surf City waterside bar.
Crack some claws at Lobstapalooza. Hester Street Fair’s Lobster and Beer blowout on Saturday will feature rolls from Burger and Lobster, Lobster Joint, and Maine’s DownEast Lobstah. Plus a DJ and a psychic.
Chug some bugs. Lobsters are the cockroaches of the sea, but if you want to wolf down some real roaches, you’ll have to get tickets for Brooklyn Bugs, a weekend-long insect-eating festival in Williamsburg.
Get one last Tiki Disco fix. Tiki Disco’s end-of-season blowouts are always a blast; don’t miss their next-to-last party of the summer at The Well on Sunday.
Hit the Warm-Up’s finale. Grooving to DJ Tunez, Little Dragon and others at PS1’s Saturday’s closeout, and take in Jenny Sabin’s magical “Lumen” installation.
Take a dip in a new rooftop pool. While you’re headed to PS1’s Warm-Up, might as well make a day of it in Long Island City. Ravel Hotel opened the Profundo Pool Club last month.
Walk with David Lynch. If you’re a plain ol’ goth and not one of these new beach goths, shut yourself in at Metrograph for its “Gotta Light?” series of Lynchian flicks.
Cure your Burning Man FOMO. Missing Burning Man right now? Live Cam not cutting it? Tonight, the art-partiers at JunXion are having a Misfit Burn at House of Yes, and they promise “that creepy dude who does ‘root chakra massages’ won’t be here.”
Go party hopping with Brooklyn Wildlife. Operating under the credo “fuck these corporate festivals,” the progressive partiers are putting on a weekend-long music fest at various venues in Bushwick and East Williamsburg.
Celebrate the hair-itage of Coney Island. Watch the beardos of the Coney Island Beard and Mustache Competition go head-to-head in categories like “Mustachio Marvel,” and check out the Coney Art Walls and that new hot dog shack while you’re at it.
Slurp oysters aboard the new schooner bar. Take the new ferry to the new floating bar, Pilot, because this is what it’s like to party in NYC in 2017.
Or, hit a boat bar that’s on land. The Frying Pan’s new bar in Industry City, the Wheelhouse, offers ping-pong, mini golf, and more.
Stay out late on Governors Island. The Jazz Age Lawn Parties may be over, but there’s a new hologram exhibit and Governors Island is staying open late tonight, with the last ferry returning at 10pm.
