Although neighbors managed to prevent the Holiday Inn on Delancey Street from adding a rooftop pool, there are plenty of new ones making a splash this year. Take the ones at the William Vale and the new 1 Hotel in Brooklyn— plus the one that’s coming later this summer to the Williamsburg Hotel. Also returning this season is La Piscine, the modest pool atop the Hotel Americano in Chelsea.
The rooftop restaurant reopened last week with a new look and menu. The new interior features butterfly chairs and banquette seating. Meanwhile, the outdoor terrace offers a close-up view of the space-age condo designed by Zaha Hadid, the late starchitect who happens to be today’s Google doodle (13 years ago today, she became the first female architect to win a Pritzker.) Units in the building are set to go on sale for $5 million, which makes the $16 price tag on the Oaxaca-inspired cocktails at La Piscine seem reasonable. (Not to mention the $40 day pass if you want to actually use the pool.)
The food menu, created by executive chef and Williamsburg resident Bryan Noury, has a modern Mexican bent. Which is exactly what you’d expect given that the hotel’s operator, Groupo Habita, is based in Mexico City. Apparently Noury gleaned inspo while touring Mexico with Grupo Habita’s founder.
Here’s a look at the offerings.
