Hot on the heels of the new Dimes, here’s yet another eatery with a breezy, white-walled California vibe.

The folks behind Genuine Superette, the new Nolita offshoot of Genuine Roadside in the Gotham West Market, make up somewhat of a dream team. AvroKO, the designers/restaurateurs who opened Public as well as Madam Geneva and Saxon + Parole, got acclaimed chef Paul Liebrandt (most recently of Williamsburg’s The Elm) to contribute to Brad Farmerie’s menu, Sam Mason (previously dessert chef at wd~50 and now the scoopsmith at OddFellows Ice Cream) to do their desserts, and perhaps our all-time favorite mixologist, Eben Freeman (another wd~50 alum who now does the fantastic drinks at Saxon + Parole) to create some alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, and to oversee a basement boozing concept that’ll launch in the coming months.

For now you’ve got what the people at AvroKO are calling “California roadside eats with a gourmet twist,” which means ahi tuna in burger or taco form; chicken in taco, sandwich, or and-waffles form; your obligatory kale salad; and some Southern touches like fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits. Liebrandt chipped in with the fish and chips (his version uses lightly fried root veggies rather than French fries), and Mason’s bid for Instagram fame consists of ice cream sandwiches that are made by scooping flavors like miso cherry and olive oil into brioche buns that are then toasted in a panini press.

The juices contain ingredients like Angostura bitters, oleo saccharum, and celery bitters so they can be easily boozed up to become cocktails.
