Spot Dessert Bar, the wildly popular sweets destination on St. Marks Place, is expanding just a few doors down.
Over the weekend, we spotted a banner indicating Spot was taking over the nook that formerly belonged to Jum Mum. Today, workers were revamping the space for what creative director Aop Sridaranop told us would be a Dec. 1 opening.
According to Sridaranop, the fried dumpling spot closed because an upstairs resident was complaining about smoky odors from the tiny kitchen. It’ll now reopen as the takeout arm of Spot, with the current location at 13 St. Marks Place becoming dine-in only (so, sort of like the two ChikaLiciouses on East 10th).
The to-go annex will at first open from 5pm to midnight and will eventually open as early as 7am for pastries like croissants and coffee from Nespresso, Sridaranop said. Expect crepes and Belgian waffles, as well.
Spot isn’t the only place to have twined itself on that strip — Yakitori Taisho boasts two locations, as well.
