When we announced that Dan “Looking For a Girlfriend” Perino would be speed dating at our Bedford + Bowery Bazaar, a “Concerned EVer” commented, “This person has made such an ass of himself in the EV that I cannot imagine ANYONE actually being interested in him.” Either that commenter has access to a Sharpie or others feel the same way, because here, above, is what someone has done with at least two flyers announcing Perino’s new Indiegogo campaign.
Despite the haters, Perino managed to go on a few speed dates at our Bazaar on Saturday — and he even got some fist bumps from fellow players. That was just the half of it: “There was a crowd of girls around me, taking pictures and giggling,” Perino reported as he left the festival with a box of his flyers.
Perino said one speed dater, a blonde babysitter, even seemed to be “the real deal,” and scheduled a lunch date (his 89th in two months) for Wednesday.
Though some at the festival doubted Perino really is looking for a girlfriend, he insisted his campaign is “not a stunt to make my acting career better” — though if it was, it would seem to be working. He told us he recently made $1,200 playing a cop in an internet tv show, Red Dot.
The fundraiser, however, isn’t raking in quite as much cash: as of this posting, it has only raised $1 out of the $50,000 Perino is looking for in order to make an “award-winning documentary.” Maybe the perks are the problem: for $5, he’ll mail you one of the Looking for a Girlfriend fliers that can be found on every friggin’ corner of the East Village.
