After having its moment as the “next Beatrice Inn” when it opened in 2008, basement speakeasy Chloe81 has kept a lo-pro, for the most part. But now its owners are launching an oyster bar directly above it.
Chloe81 Blue, as the above-ground cocktails-and-seafood spot will be called, has decidedly swank aspirations, in keeping with Hotel Chantelle nearby.
In a press release, M Kouger — who owns the place (and East Williamsburg’s Kingsland) along with Brooke Smy and Michael Townsend — notes that “the LES has changed dramatically in the past few years. There is a lot more foot traffic, affluence and excitement surrounding the area and we’re thrilled to have been and to continue to be a part of it.”
The trio’s new spot “takes its inspiration from a Parisian bistro,” complete with blue banquettes, subway tiling, and wood finishes. It’ll open (during Fashion Week, naturally) tomorrow with a private party featuring streetside jazz and DJs Queen Majesty, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem, Juan McClean) and Justine D (Motherfucker). After that, hours are 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
If you miss oysters at Prima, this may be your new slurping spot.
