Champs, the vegan diner with locations in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick, is doing what everyone else in North Brooklyn is doing these days and weekending in Rockaway.
This past weekend the “family bakery” opened a pop-up inside of the Beach 96th Street concession stand, right next to its Greenpoint neighbor, The Lobster Joint. Owner Brad King-Baker tells us Champs on the Beach will be back this Saturday and Sunday, from about 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and “we don’t know what’ll happen in August.” But, he says, it was a “super fun experience” and he’d like to keep serving what he’s calling “traditional beach food that just happens to be vegan” (meaning fried Oreos, vegan corn dogs, broccoli fritters, and kale salad).
