After toughing out the winter with a seafood pop-up, the Riis Park Beach Bazaar is no doubt ready for some sun’s out, buns out. (Hot dog buns, that is.) Today it unveiled its summer lineup, and there are a few surprises in the mix. Among the new food vendors are some familiar faces to those who frequent Rippers, the kick-ass burger stand on the other side of the Rockaway peninsula.
First off, Two Dudes— the spawn of Rippers managers Domenic Boero and Tyler Wright— will be serving “the classic California roadside burger” as well as fries and wings out of a repurposed cargo container. The burger stand debuted inside of Rockaway Beach Brewing Company in January. It’ll be joined here by Super Burrito, the San Francisco burrito concept that a former Rippers cook opened last year at the Beach 97th boardwalk concession.
Also new this year: Red Hook’s Pizza Moto will be filling the wood-fired pizza void created when Rockaway’s “Pizza Nazi” got the heave-ho after butting heads with the National Park Service.
Rounding out the fresh faces, the Warung Roadside truck, which launched earlier this year, will serve pad Thai and other Bangkok street food staples.
This year’s returning vendors include Fletcher’s, Ample Hills, Ed and Bev’s, Oaxaca Taqueria, and relative newcomer Rockaway Clam Bar.
Among the slew of free shows this year is a Labor Day blowout from DJ Jonathan Toubin.
