Given the newest wave of European migration to Williamsburg, it was only a matter of time before the continent’s food followed suit. Which is why we were unsurprised to discover that 156 Bedford Avenue will be the future home of Gunz. For those unfamiliar, Gunz is an Austrian-based importer of European fine foods that, for the past couple of years, has operated a shop on University Place.

With its lease on the Greenwich Village branch soon running out, the company has big plans for its move across the river later this year. Nicole Hummer, an employee of Gunz, told us the new place would be “a coffee shop in the morning and a wine bar in the evenings.” The store will also stock retail items, primarily Austrian fine foods.
The Greenwich Village branch is heavy on the products advertised on its window: biscuits, chocolates, jams, spices, cakes, olive oils, and candies from brands like Chupa Chups and Haribo. For a taste, get there before it closes or better yet, wait a couple months to get the full Gunz experience.
