Coney Island Film Fest and The Legacy and Lessons of Bleecker Bob’s
This Friday through Sunday, the Coney Island Film Festival celebrates its 13th year with 88 films, some food, some wine, and, of course, some burlesque. Programs include “Coney Island Films,” which are films based in or about Coney Island; “The Jules Verne Project,” a story about a shipwreck and survival; and of course “The Warriors,” which needs no explanation.

EV Board Shop Expands to Williamsburg; Parm May Follow

East Village board shop is expanding east to Williamsburg and giving new life to defunct pinball hangout Satellite Lounge. Its new identity is Jackbar, and you’ll be able to play cool games with tiny silver balls there, too. []
Parm, a favorite Italian eatery in Nolita, also seems set to traverse the East River and erect a Williamsburg outpost, likely slotted for North Fourth Street. [Grub Street] More →

Believe it or not, The Standard’s new lobby isn’t the biggest news out of Cooper Square. Across the street, the venerable Village Voice has quietly slipped out of 36 Cooper, where it’s been headquartered since 1991, and has set up shop in, yes, the Financial District.

At Black Square, You Can Get a Tat, Buy a Zine, or Just Chill

Russia-born artist Anton Zolotov is drawing outside the lines with Black Square, a tattoo shop/book and zine store opening this Monday in Williamsburg. He considers the shop to be an art project rather than a business and is focused on creating a place where people can just chill. “I wanted to do something that I haven’t seen done yet, a different take on tattooing,” he told B+B. “People can hang out here and it will be more about that, not just getting tattooed.”

Man Shot During Possible Robbery-Gone-Bad on Clinton

A 31-year-old man was shot on the Lower East Side early this morning.
Police believe the shooting, which happened around 4 a.m. at 103 Clinton St., was part of an attempted robbery. The gunshot grazed the victim’s face, and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is expected to survive, police said. The perpetrator, described as a man wearing a brown hoodie, evaded capture and was not arrested.
Russ & Daughters Is Totally Slammed With Salmonheads Right Now
Russ & Daughters is no longer taking pre-orders for Yom Kippur appetizing, so if you’re aiming to break the fast with babka, you’re going to have to hoof it down to Houston. Just one thing: the line for lox is long. Very long. A tipster tells us the person in front of her told her the wait was four hours long, and 114 people took tickets before she took off. When we called to confirm, the following exchanged occurred.

Brooklyn’s Tiniest DJ Will Spin On Orchard Street This Sunday

Until the Lower East Side’s favorite Brooklyn-born, nine-year-old DJ manages to break from the shackles of his 10 p.m. bedtime, fans can only catch Kai Song spinning while the sun is wholly up. Naturally this would make him an institution at Daylife, the neighborhood’s sort-of-semi-annual three-block bash, which has its final hurrah of the season this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
