Peep It If You Missed It: Mortals’ New Music Video ‘View From a Tower’

Last week we caught up with Elizabeth Cline, guitarist for the band Mortals, right before the band’s album release show at the Acheron. We’re certain Mortals ripped their audience a new one last Friday. If for some reason you missed it, at least you can check out the new horror-movie-inspired black-and-white music video Mortals premiered at the show, featuring scenes filmed on location at the Acheron. “View from a Tower,” is off Mortals’ new album, Cursed to See the Future, out now on Relapse Records.

‘Black Boy Place’ Will Sell Tacky Basquiat Beanies Across From Where He Died

Not only is The Vintage Twin once again popping up at 355A Bowery tomorrow through Wednesday, but next month the space will get a titillating new tenant: Black Boy Place, the Parisian street-wear brand responsible for Jay-Z’s notorious “Tom Ford” football jerz, will make its NYC brick-and-mortar debut there from August 4 to 18.

Okay, we know what you’re thinking: what. is up. with that name. “Unlike what some might think,” explains the fashion house on its website, “Black Boy Place refers to the dark side of men rather than the color of their skin.”

If you love zines and alcoholic beverages and eclectic chit-chat, then this is the event for you. This weekend, Pete’s Candy Store will yet again be hosting “the longest running zine fest in Brooklyn.” On Friday, the Fest kicks off with a reading to celebrate the latest issue of We’ll Never Have Paris, a zine of nonfiction memoir that’s been around since 2007. Curator and editor Andria Alefhi will be reading from the issue, as will other contributors. The festival proper will be held on Saturday, bringing together an array of zinesters, comic artists, publishers, and “amazing delicious snacks.”

Straightforward questions simply do not work on the curator and artist-in-residence of “the Official Art Gallery of SATAN.” There were several times during our talk when Brine stared back at me — amidst imagery of Charles Manson and Baphomet the Sabbatic Goat — as if to say, “What the hell are you talking about?”

Tonight Jonathan Morr of BONDST will bring a Brooklyn outpost of his other sushi den, Cherry, to Williamsburg. That may cause some to worry about the upscaling of the neighborhood’s dining scene (a cherry that was already popped by The Elm). After all, Cherry’s meatpacking-esque location in the Dream Hotel looks like a place where the girls from Sex and the City would get a drink, not the girls from Girls.

With the G train’s dreaded five-week shutdown set to go into effect tomorrow night, DNA Info has published a handy rundown of alternative ways of getting from Greenpoint to Long Island City. But they left this one out: the folks at Uber just e-mailed to tell us they’re offering free rides along the stretch of the G train that will be closed till Sept. 2.
