Get ready to spot some stars — the movie Maggie’s Plan, starring Julianne Moore, Ethan Hawke and Greta Gerwig, is slated to begin filming in the East Village next month.

We spotted this letter today on the door of an East 10th Street apartment building, between First Avenue and Avenue A. The filmmakers plan to shoot in the area on February 23, 24, and 25 and are seeking a first- or second-floor apartment for interiors and exteriors. So maybe some lucky local will get the surreal experience of seeing Julianne Moore sipping a glass of water in their kitchen?

Bushwick firefighters rescued a woman in her 20s who fell four stories from a Madison Street apartment rooftop and found herself trapped in a two-and-a-half-foot-wide crevice on Monday night. [Daily News] She was stuck for 45 minutes; watch a video of her extrication. [Gothamist]

Sunday morning at approximately 4:40 a.m., four individuals assaulted an inebriated man on Montrose Avenue before getting away in a gray sedan. The man sustained a cut to the face and was treated at Woodhull Medical Center. [Brooklyn Paper]

Fire Forces Building Evacuation on East 4th Street

A fire caused the evacuation of an East Village building shortly before 11 a.m. this morning. The fire at 133 East 4th Street, between First and Second Avenues, was contained to the basement, and no one was injured. FDNY Battalion Chief Philip Tufano said a gas line in the basement appeared to have been tampered with, but the fire marshal has yet to determine whether that was a contributing factor to the blaze.

John Waters Exhibit Draws Gasps From Unsuspecting Chelsea Tourists

When I stopped by the Marianne Boesky Gallery on an exceedingly chilly Saturday afternoon, just one day after the opening of John Waters’ Beverly Hills John exhibition– the raunchy filmmaker’s been featured in a number of solo shows across the country since 2000– the place was packed with an awkward mix of tourists and people who seemed to be in the know. One woman snapped a photo of a sculpture depicting a mini-living room, a memorial dedicated to the late Mike Kelley, an artists who continues to be an inspiration to Waters. In a speech given at UCLA, Waters dubbed Kelley a “terrorist and a hero.”
