After popping up on Bedford Avenue last year, altruistic shoe brand Toms is opening a permanent shop in Williamsburg. The new store and cafe will open in the fall at 160 N. 4th Street, just down the block from where international clothing brands Levis, G-Star and Scotch & Soda have also set up shop.
According to the announcement, the 1,500-square-foot space off of Bedford Avenue, formerly home to Umami Burger, will feature an outdoor café (Toms also has a coffee roasting company) and plenty of natural-wood shelving for its eyewear and signature slip-on shoes.
The announcement hypes the area as “one of the most sought-after retail districts in the nation” and notes the nearby presence of Apple, Whole Foods, Aesop, and Flywheel. With chains like that taking over the neighborhood, Toms is a shoe-in!
The address, 160 N. 4th, was home to New York’s best gay bar before its building was purchased for $66 million in 2012 and redeveloped.
