Sadly just a prank, via JediNews.

The schwartz really has been with us lately. Just days after Mel Brooks brought a screening of Spaceballs to Newark and asked the audience if they’d like to see a sequel, Rick Moranis reprised his role of Dark Helmet during an episode of The Goldbergs. So does that mean Spaceballs: The Search For More Money might actually happen?

That remains a mystery bigger than what exactly Lone Starr is to Dark Helmet if he’s his father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate. When Brooks was asked about a sequel to his 1987 Star Wars spoof during a live conversation at the Temple Emanu-El’s Streiker Center, he turned his answer into a question by asking the audience whether they’d like to see a Spaceballs 2.

He did the same thing after the screening at the NJ Performing Arts Center.

There, Brooks said that “MGM is slightly interested in doing it because of the Star Wars Rogue One and Force Awakens and the new Star Wars explosion. So they think maybe. So we’re talking, who knows.”

Before you get too excited, flip down your respirator and take some deep breaths. Rick Moranis is notoriously “picky” about roles these days, and John Candy (Barf) and Joan Rivers (Dot Matrix) are no longer with us. Then again, Daphne Zuniga is still embracing her past as the Druish princess Vespa. She’s appearing at FedCon this weekend, as you can see from this photo of her with the Mr. Coffee machine from the starship Spaceball I.

The Con is in Bonn, Germany, but you can still make it there and join all the other Assholes if you set your spaceship– or Tesla– to Ludicrous speed. Better yet, stay right here in NYC and snag some tickets for the upcoming screenings of Spaceballs at IFC Center, June 15 to 17. Here’s hoping they stock the lobby with plenty of merchandise.
