Nevermind the threat of yet another nor’easter, it’s time to start thinking spring thoughts, dammit. Which means it’s time to welcome the return of two of the city’s biggest outdoor food fests, Smorgasburg and Hester Street Fair. This year, the latter is bringing with it “the first ever ball-shaped food festival.”
But first: On March 31, Smorgasburg will end its winter sojourn in Sunset Park and return to Williamsburg’s East River State Park every Saturday. It’ll also be back at Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill on Sundays.
Following that, on April 14, Hester Street Fair returns to Seward Park for its ninth season. Expect the same mix of food, fashion, and trinkets, with one very exciting addition: This year, Lower East Side bottle boutique Beer Fridge will be curating a weekly selection of local and independent brews.
There’s also a notable newcomer on the events schedule: Balls Bistro, on May 19, will feature “every food imaginable in the shape of a ball.” Takoyaki, arancini, falafel… the possibilities for tasty balls and tasteless puns are endless. Check out the events poster below and the full schedule at Hester’s site.
