Hey, hey, my, my– somehow there are still tickets left for tonight’s 8:55pm screening of Paradox at IFC Center, which will be introduced by directors Neil Young and Daryl Hannah.
The trippy Western also debuts on Netflix today, but come on, you don’t get to bask in the presence of the legendary musician and his legendary girlfriend when you #Netflixandchill. Sure, it’s been a long week, but it’s better to burn out than fade into the couch.
Paradox was “shot on both Super 8 and on Hannah’s phone over four days in the Rockies between tour dates (and while everybody adjusted to the high altitude),” says Rolling Stone. “It’s a funny, trippy homemade project that’s part performance movie and part pleasantly buzzed daydream.”
Or as Hannah puts its: “We’re more pot than plot.”
There is somewhat of a plot. The film “follows a gang of cowboys holed up in the hills, searching for relics of the past,” per Rolling Stone. “They’ve got names like Jail Time and the Particle Kid; the de facto leader is Young’s Man in the Black Hat, who’s prone to wander the snowy plains and play guitar when he’s not keeping everybody in line with a serious don’t-fuck-with-me glare.”
The soundtrack consists of Neil Young playing with Promise of the Real, and features new music mixed with old songs like “Pocahontas” and covers like Willie Nelson’s “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground” (Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah are in Promise of the Real). You can stream the album here.
