Dr. Octagon, everyone’s favorite time-traveling, extraterrestrial OBGYN, returned to the operating theater last month with a new single, “Octagon Octagon.” Today Octagon, the alterego of rapper Kool Keith, is releasing another track off of Moosebumps: an exploration into modern day horripilation, his long-awaited follow-up to Dr. Octagonecologyst. Plus, there’ll be a Dr. Octagon show at Brooklyn Bowl on April 5, a day before the album drops.
The new track, “Area 54,” finds Dr. Octagon in prime form, rapping about space travel in his usual opaque, stream-of-consciousness way, over a saxed-up beat. This is his first album with DJ Qbert and Dan the Automator in 22 years. You can read more about that here and listen to the track here. Tickets to the Brooklyn Bowl show are $30 a pop, and Dr. Octagon will also be playing SXSW.
