It’s been about a year since Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has filmed in New York City, but the Netflix comedy just started filming season 4, and it’s coming to the East Village tomorrow. Signs posted in the neighborhood indicate the shoot starts early Thursday morning.
The show, starring Ellie Kemper as a cult survivor who becomes the world’s bubbliest New Yorker, is set to premiere May 30, though only six episodes will hit Netflix then. The rest will be posted at a later date, E News reports.
In the past, Unbreakable, produced in Greenpoint, has touched on hot-button issues like gentrification. (Remember Soul Food, the “artisanal fair-trade sneaker experience” that threatened to open in Kimmy’s neighborhood of East Dogmouth?) Now that Kimmy has an office job, the #MeToo movement will be “very present, especially in the first half of the season,” show-runner Robert Carlock tells The Hollywood Reporter.
As for Tituss Burgess (aka Titus Andromedon), he was hawking Peeno Noir around this time last year. Clearly, the man is going to need a stand-in. If that’s you, here’s the casting call.
