Have you been by Other Music’s former home on East 4th Street? It’s now inhabited by Broken Coconut, an on-trend, tropical-themed cafe serving poke bowls, tap kombucha, and avocado toast. Those who mourned the loss of the hallowed indie record store last year couldn’t have imagined a more fitting replacement: Where Neutral Milk Hotel was once on the speakers, coconut milk is now in the chia bowls. But, wait! Other Music ain’t dead yet.

While the Other Music documentary comes along, the shop’s former employees and their friends are taking up residency at Union Pool in Williamsburg. The first installment of the Other Music monthly launches this Sunday, Nov. 26, with a live performance by 178 Product, featuring Liquid Liquid’s Sal P and former Other staffer Gerald Hammill. For an idea of what to expect, check out their jazzy jammin’ at C’Mon Everybody, featuring Tim Harrington of Les Savy Fav:

Hammill will also be on DJ duty Sunday along with another former staffer, Daniel Givens. The no-cover show goes from 8pm to midnight. Wear your Other t-shirt to show you’re down.
