Union Hall Bounces Back From Fire With a Comeback Party

Union Hall is reopening its upstairs bar with a party on July 21. The beloved Park Slope venue was forced to close after a fire broke out in the roof on March 24. No one was hurt and its basement was able to reopen in May, but the library-like upstairs has been on the mend. Now it’s set to reopen with “a few new couches but the same great vibe,” according to a statement by owner Jim Carden.

Since it opened in 2006, Union Hall has been a magnet for Brooklyn’s best performers, podcasters, quirky lecturers, science dorks, and comedians. Among those who helped raise over $10,000 during a pair of recovery fundraisers at its sister venue, Bell House, were Mike Birbiglia, John Mulaney, Michael Che, Sasheer Zamata, Jon Glaser, Chris Gethard, and Judah Friendlander.

According to a statement by booker Shannon Manning, patrons of the venue have been using a “secret patio entrance” to access the basement, where Judd Apatow is set to perform at a sold-out show on Monday. The upstairs reopens at 1pm on Friday; from 5pm to 8pm, there’ll be an extended happy hour involving “$3 Sixpoints, giveaways & other fun surprises.”
