Dante, the award-winning Greenwich Village bar-restaurant best known for its negroni on tap (and its sadly discontinued $1 martini specials), is launching a new satellite location tonight. Created in partnership with design firm-slash-restarauteur AvroKO, the new bar — “Dante at GENUINE” — is located above GENUINE Liquorette in the space formerly occupied by GENUINE Superette.

Like the original Dante, the satellite will focus on upscale Italian-inspired cuisine, making the Little Italy location at GENUINE Liquorette entirely apt. Dante at GENUINE, however, will have a new menu with food and drink items unique to the branch site.

That’s exciting news, since Dante has racked up quite a few accolades for its food and drink: It was ranked the world’s 34th best bar by Drinks International, named Best Restaurant Bar by TimeOut New York, and named one of the best bars in NYC by CondeNast Traveler.

The new menu runs a gamut of enticing and exotic delights: prosciutto and other salumi, grilled octopus, pasta with wild boar ragu, calamari, soft-shell crab, etc.

More to the point is the drinks menu, which includes a variety of clever mixed drinks with a nice emphasis on “[l]arge format, easy flowing and help-yourself cocktails,” for those of us who like to have our second and third drink in the same glass as our first.

According to the press release, those include “the Negroni Sbagliato for two served in a porron (a traditional glass wine pitcher used to pour beverages directly into a person’s mouth)” and the “ever-flowing Negroni Fountain” (see picture). There is also rosé on tap.

Dante at GENUINE opens tonight at 6 pm at 191 Grand St, at the corner of Mulberry. Henceforth it will be open daily from 11 am-12 pm for pastries and then for the full menu from 12 pm-10 pm.
