Riis Park Beach Bazaar Returns For Another Season in Rockaway

First Nowadays, and now another one of our favorite outdoor destinations has unveiled its summertime programming. The Riis Park Beach Bazaar is returning on Memorial Day weekend with the usual food vendors, live music, and then some. And this year, getting out to the Breezy Point area is literally a breeze, what with the new cheapo ferry service to Rockaway.

New to the Beach Bazaar this year are Rockaway Clam Bar; another local startup, Sausage Hero; and Chick’n’Cone, which will also be at Coney Art Walls, right across the bay. This isn’t the first time the folks who operate the Jacob Riis Park concessions have experimented with handheld chicken and waffles; you’ll recall Brooklyn Star did them during the Beach Bazaar’s first season, a couple of years ago.

Otherwise, the food lineup looks pretty much the same, thanks to winter holdover Whit’s End and returning vendors Fletcher’s BBQ, Oaxaca Tacos, Coney Shack, Ample Hills Creamery, and others.

Among those who’ll be programming the free shows are Doug DeFalco, co-creator of the McCarren Pool parties (RIP), and Ipsum, a booker at bygone venues Shea Stadium and Aviv that has lately been doing shows at the Beach Bazaar’s sister venue, Brooklyn Bazaar.
