While Poseidon’s Parade was going down in Rockaway, Astor Alive! took over the renovated Astor Place and Cooper Square in Manhattan. As noted last week, the Astor cube was nowhere to be found, but the Village Alliance saw to it that it was represented via spinning cardboard cubes that were hoisted in the air during the two-day festival’s closeout procession. And one thing made a glorious return, at least: Jim “Mosaic Man” Power unveiled one of his mosaic-dotted light poles at the new Alamo Plaza.
Throughout the weekend, locals were treated to free performances by downtown legends like Mx Justin Vivian Bond, Nicky Paraiso, Lance Horne, John Kelly, Blue Man Group, and Alan Cumming, who belted out some Adele. Check out the photos and video below.
