Whiskey Burger serves exactly what you’d expect– whiskeys and burgers– and at the Greenpoint restaurant’s grand opening tonight, they can be yours for freeeeeee.
That’s right, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., they’ll be giving away the store. Come early and sip a Paloma or a Pickett’s Mule (Icelandic vodka, ginger beer and lime juice) while stuffing your face with quarter-sized bites of the house burger, boldly named The Whiskey Burger. “It’s an angus burger with cheddar cheese, fried bacon and shallots, served in a brioche bun with a whiskey-infused barbecue sauce,” says chef Richard Krause, who’s done time at Casimir & Co. and Cafe Luxembourg. According to a poster, there’ll also be free salmon burgers, mac and cheese, nachos, grilled cheese, and banana bread pudding.
Despite the grand-opening hoopla, the Greenpoint restaurant has actually been flipping patties since October, when it succeeded The Mark Bar at 1025 Manhattan Avenue. The owners are the same, but their brand new menu offers beef and veggie burgers, sandos, and apps such as nachos and chili cheese fries.
Tonight’s free-for-all should be standing-room only unless the weather gets a bit milder (dare to dream), in which case the place might also show off its backyard.
