The long vacant retail spaces at 51 Astor got a CVS back in December, and now the futuristic office building that’s home to Jeff Koons’s balloon rabbit is getting its latest tenant. Chopt, the self-described “creative salad company” with over a dozen locations around the city, opens Monday with a freebie giveaway. Now the busy bees working upstairs at IBM Watson won’t even have to cross the street and stoop to the salad bar at Ray’s Pizza Bagel Cafe in order to sling croutons down their gullet.
From 11am to 1:30pm and 6pm to 8:30pm on Monday, Chopt will give away free salads and salad wraps to anyone who makes a donation to Wellness in Schools, a non-profit promoting healthy eating in public schools.
Unlike some of Chopt’s more claustrophobic locations, this one is bright and airy, with comfy seating, floor-to-ceiling windows and this funky wallpaper showing dashing daredevil-types riding eggplants.
Here’s a closer look.
Next to move into 51 Astor, right next-door to Chopt, is local Aussie-style coffee joint Bluestone Lane.
