If you’re a Manhattanite who has bunkered down for the winter, it’s probably been a while since you’ve gotten out to East Williamsburg and Bushwick. After all, those after-hours warehouses are just so drafty this time of year. But two big productions are aiming to lure you onto the L train and into the neighborhood’s restaurants and galleries. If these don’t get you to throw on a scarf and skate across the river, nothing will.
Grand Street Restaurant Week
Feb. 22 through Feb. 28
NYC Restaurant Week’s winter session ended earlier this month, but the party continues along Grand Street in East Williamsburg, where a dozen restaurants are offering dinner specials for $30 or less and, in some cases, lunch specials for $10 and under. Among those participating in the event, organized by the Grand Street BID, are Dar525 (which will match proceeds with donations to Sheltering Arms), Le Barricou, Desy’s Clam Bar, Forcella, Haab, The Grand Bar & Grill, The Sandwich Shop, Bahia, Los Primos, Grand Morelos, Indian Kitchen, and Masha and the Bear. Their menus can be found here.
Bushwick Gallery Late Night
Mar. 5, 6pm to 9pm
Stephanie Theodore, the Manhattan-turned-Brooklyn dealer behind THEODORE:Art, is spearheading another late-night gallery crawl. For this one, over 20 galleries in Bushwick and East Williamsburg will stay open till 9pm (some even later) to welcome art buffs in town for the Armory show and its various satellite fairs. So go ahead and do your squinty-eyed art browsing in Manhattan and then do some cross-eyed art carousing in Brooklyn at the gallery shows below. (See here for a convenient map.)
