Not since Keith Haring has someone or something risen so quickly from subway station to Museum of Modern Art. The Newsstand that graced the Lorimer-Metropolitan stop from June of 2013 to January of 2014 is now ensconced at MoMA. The re-creation of the original is part of a new exhibit, Ocean of Images: New Photography 2015, featuring the work of photographers like Lele Saveri, curator of The Newsstand. And, trust: there’ll be a good run of events before it pops down in March.

First up, East Village Radio stalwarts Chances With Wolves will be reprising their appearances at the original Newsstand and spinning their treasure trove of obscure vinyl. That happens Nov. 13 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Yes, that’s on a Friday afternoon. If you can’t make it uptown for that, don’t worry: there’ll be plenty of other events at The Newsstand. And if you refuse to go above 14th Street under any circumstances, there’ll be a launch party at FiDi restaurant China Chalet this Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. (rsvp to events@alldayeveryday.com).

As with the original Newsstand, this one features zines and ephemera from a hodge-podge of hip publishers, galleries and shops, including Printed Matter, Karma, 8-Ball, Ed. Varie, Alldayeveryday, Pau Wau Publications, Dashwood, and Desert Island. But this one will be watched over by a museum guard, so don’t even think about tagging it.
